Albrecht Dürer draw this hand circa 1508, most likely as a study for his alter piece. Than during the centuries this study started its independent life.
Innumerable artist used it to create three dimensional versions of it in relief or in the round carving. It is also a favourite subjects among grade 8 students at schools where we are teaching. In one year the class I was working with had grater than usual difficulty to picture the 3D version of the 2D drawing. To help them to see it better, I created this model so they can see and measure the depth.
It is life size and oil based clay. Since I never had the intention to carve it, I have already used the clay for something else.
