I think the phase I am in now should be called the “minimalist's illusionist”. I can hardly think of anything else when it comes to carving, but how it can be done a simplistic way, with the least of lines and shapes, and tricking the eyes to still see the person I try to portray.

In this case I lowered the shadows about one millimetre and painted it black. I also carved the same on the other side of this piece of wood, in that case I stained the wood first, then I lowered light portion.

It is basswood, 10” round and 1/4” thick.
